Safer subsea wellhead being developed

Plexus Holdings is partnering with four major oil and gas companies to develop and commercialise a new and safer subsea wellhead, HGSS. Consulting partners included in Plexus’s Joint Industry Project are Maersk Oil North Sea UK, Shell International Exploration and Production, Wintershall Noordzee, and oil and gas technology solution consultancy SafeKick.

FMC sets deepwater completion record

The enhanced vertical deepwater tree (EVDT) system from FMC Technologies recently set a new deepwater completion record of 9627 feet at the Shell-operated Tobago field, part of the Perdido development located in the Gulf of Mexico.

New 3 valve block manifold

The new Series BBV-1 Block Manifold from the W.E. Anderson Division of Dwyer Instruments can be used over a broad range of industrial applications including oil refineries, nuclear power stations, petrochemical processing, and more.

Velan awarded Chinese nuclear valve contracts

In a contract worth $16.2 million, Velan SAS, Velan Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary located in Lyon, France, has been selected by CNPE (China Nuclear Power Engineering Co, Ltd.) and as a result, the CNEIC (China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation) awarded an important contract to Velan for the supply of nuclear-classified gate and globe valves for the two new nuclear power plants of FuQing Units 3 and 4 located in Fujian province, China.

New HART software released

Dwyer Instruments recently released of its new model DEVCOM2000 Hart Communication Protocol software which turns a PC into a full featured HART communicator. Now it is possible to configure transmitters and control valves at the desktop or in the field.

Nebraska lawmakers vote to reroute XL

  TransCanada Corp has stated it supports proposed legislation within the State of Nebraska to reroute the Keystone XL pipeline project to avoid sensitive aquifers.

Convert a quarter turn valve into a relief valve

Buckling pin pilots by Rupture Pin Technology can control readily available actuated ball and butterfly valves. These valves can incorporate chemical compatibility with no size or pressure limit. Where possible, the system fluid or steam can be used to supply actuator pressure as directed by the pilot.

New Siemens facility in Charlotte, NC

Siemens is continuing to expand its worldwide network of gas turbine manufacturing facilities. The company has invested more than $350 million in a 42,000 sq/m plant in Charlotte, North Carolina, creating 700 new jobs.

NY begins gas drilling hearings

The State of New York has begun public hearings on natural gas drilling rules in the Marcellus Shale. Environmentalists say that the rules currently in place are too lax, but industry says that they are so restrictive drillers would avoid exploring in the state.
