In the April issue of Valve World Americas, James Chater wrote all about the use of duplex valves and pumps in the process industries.
In his well-written article, he explains how in all but the most extreme corrosion and heat environments, duplex and super-duplex stainless steels are practically a requirement in process industries, as they represent the most cost-effective protection against corrosion and erosion. Since duplex is stronger, thinner gauges are possible, representing a gain in space and lighter, more easily transportable installations. This is true in a number of process industries, but the real growth area is represented by pumps and valves in the water treatment industry, especially desalination.
