Solenoid Valves for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres

Potentially explosive atmospheres impose strict requirements. Solenoid valves used in these areas must be exceptionally robust and reliable, adaptable to different areas of application and, of course, must conform to the corresponding approvals and directives. With this in mind, the fluid control specialist Bürkert has optimized its diverse program of modular solenoid valves to meet current explosion protection requirements. The result is a modular coil and valve concept that now also takes NEPSI and KOSHA specifications into account for global use in addition to the explosion protection requirements in accordance with the ATEX and IEC standards relating to explosive atmospheres. The typical areas of application are highly diversified. They range from sewage water treatment plants to the pneumatic conveyance of bulk goods in silos with a high dust loading or the dosing of combustible gas for controlling flame quality and temperature all the way to pressurised enclosure systems for control cabinets in potentially explosive environments.

Depending on the application needs, different encapsulated solenoid coils can be combined with plunger, diaphragm, piston or pivoted armature valves made from stainless steel, brass or plastic to suit the ambient conditions. In this context, the user can choose between a flexible, halogen-free, chemically highly resistant cable connection or a junction box variant constructed with highly flexible connection options. The robust, metal junction box housing can be rotated in 90° steps; electrical connections are completed using a single tool. Other additions include practical details such as a lid locking mechanism, the option to attach a lead seal and an earthing screw for external potential equalisation. This results in a highly diversified range of solenoid valves for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. As well as being quick and simple to install, they are robust and maintenance-friendly thanks to the use of tried and tested components.
