Elsenhans: Sunoco’s MVP

Lynn Elsenhans is the first woman to lead a major oil company as CEO of Sunoco. This Forbes magazine Most Powerful Woman earns approximately USD 4.88 million per year. A Rice University graduate with a BA in Applied Science, Elsenhans also attended Harvard Business School for her MBA.

KBR funds subsea engineering program

KBR subsea subsidiary Granherne has committed to funding $50,000 to the University of Houston to assist in the launching of the nation’s first program in subsea engineering. The program will designate four adjunct faculty members as KBR lecturers in subsea engineering for the 2011-2012 academic year to help teach students about the expectations and demands they will face in the coming years.

Power plant upgrade set for Texas

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has awarded Fluor Corp an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its new 540MW combined cycle Ferguson Replacement Project near Marble Falls, Texas.

Cameron signs subsea contract with Petrobras

Petrobras has renewed its CAMSERV aftermarket services contract with Cameron in support of developments offshore Brazil. This agreement is a continuation to the contract previously signed in 2007. The agreement will be managed from Cameron’s service center in Macae and the facility will support Petrobras operations with inspection, maintenance, repair and remanufacturing, storage and offshore installation services.

Hydraulic proportional valves debuted

Parker Hannifin debuted its new range of ATEX approved directly operated hydraulic proportional valves designed for use in Zone 1 areas at Offshore Europe in September. Featuring explosion proof solenoids, the D1FB*EE is available with the option of spool/sleeve design for precision or spool/body design for high nominal flow characteristics and has extremely low levels of hysteresis.

API: jobs would come with U.S. energy production

The American Petroleum Institute has released a report indicating that proposals to expand offshore oil drilling, boost production of natural gas in New York and other states and build a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline could boost the U.

New economical electric actuators

The EPZ series of industrial electric actuators was recently released by Hayward Flow Control. The EPZ Series is an economical solution for small diameter ball valves and well suited for tight-space applications.

Initec to build gas-fired plant in Brazil

Initec Energia has secured a $364 million contract from MPX Energia to construct a 500MW combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in Maranhao, Brazil. The project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2014, reports Bloomberg.

Tyco awarded enterprise framework agreement

The flow control unit of Tyco International Ltd. has been selected by Shell to provide butterfly valves to Shell globally.

Excelerate Energy awards VT3 contract

DSME has been selected by Excelerate Energy to build a new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to be utilized by Petrobras, which has designated the ship VT3. Said to be the largest vessel of its kind, the vessel will deliver 20 million cum/day of natural gas to the Southeast Region of Brazil.
