Faulty valve inspected at nuclear plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has sent inspectors to the Omaha Power District Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station, which is located in the state of Nebraska. The inspectors are investigating after a faulty valve was discovered, reported and repaired.
The faulty valve was part of the station’s auxiliary feed water system, which brings cooling water into steam generators. Cris Averett, the nuclear site communicator, stated that the faulty valve was found weeks ago when the station was offline during its refueling outage. As per protocol, the nuclear station reported the malfunctioning valve to the NRC and had it repaired before checking other parts for similar issues. Averett also confirmed that the repaired valve operates well and that inspectors will analyze why the valve stopped working.
