Wood pellet plant expands

Wood pellet manufacturer and supplier Pacific BioEnergy is expanding its wood pellet production plant in Prince George, British Colombia. The project is expected to cost $24 million and will be able to handle bush grind thanks to the addition of a new in-feed line. The expanded facility will also be able to handle increased amounts waste wood from the forests in the area, including that killed by mountain pine beetles. Production capacity at the plant will be boosted to 350,000tns/yr of wood pellets, up from its current output of between 150,000 and 180,000tns. Construction is due to finish in December, 2010. Upon completion Pacific BioEnergy’s pellet plant will be the second largest in North America.
