Wolseley golf tournament raises $51,000 for Special Oly

On June 3, 2015, Wolseley Canada held its 10th annual Wolseley Classic golf tournament in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised $51,000 CAD in support of Special Olympics (SO). Proceeds from the tournament, which was held at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club, will be donated to SO Manitoba and SO Canada. To date, the Wolseley Classic has raised $525,000 for SO.
This year’s tournament smashed last year’s fundraising record of $40,000. Organizers achieved the significant milestone by soliciting support from numerous sponsors, and also by selling raffle and 50/50 draw tickets to the 160 golfers in attendance.
“This year’s event was a great success, and it’s all thanks to the efforts of a lot of dedicated, passionate people,” said Merle Anderson, branch area manager, plumbing and HVAC/R, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, Wolseley Canada, and chair of the Wolseley Classic. “The support from our sponsors has always been tremendous, and the efforts of the people here at Wolseley and others in the community have helped us raise a considerable sum of money that will go towards helping Special Olympians achieve their dreams.”
Since 2004 Wolseley has been a national sponsor of Special Olympics Canada, and has donated more than $2.5 million through corporate sponsorship and employee fundraising. Wolseley is also an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
