Voith has won a service contract to modernize three hydropower generators at the Kettle Generating Station in Manitoba, Canada. Voith is a mechanical engineering company specializing in the energy, oil & gas, paper, transportation & automotive, and raw materials industries. Voith Hydro in Canada has a center that works with winding and coil technology that is located in Mississauga, Ontario.
The power station is the second-largest hydropower plant in the province, with 12 units and an installed capacity of 1,220 MW, and it is owned by Manitoba Hydro. It was first commissioned in the early 1970’s, but now requires some rehabilitation. Voith will replace stator frames, cores and windings, and will perform pole re-insulation, along with the installation of new coolers. The completed project will see each refurbished unit with a rating of 120 MVA.
