Tampa Water Department Implements $42 M Improvement Project

The City of Tampa has announced a significant upgrade to its chemical systems at the David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility. The upgrades were introduced to improve water quality, enhance safety, and support long-term operational resilience.

The project consists of adding a new on-site sodium hypochlorite generation facility. This will allow the ability to produce its own liquid bleach for disinfection rather than relying on off-site support. A more robust ammonia delivery system will also be installed to improve reliability and provide greater operational flexibility.

The project is part of a wider program to modernize its water treatment infrastructure, meet demand, and adapt operations to support a growing population.

The Chemical Systems Improvement Project is funded through Progressive Infrastructure Planning to Ensure Sustainability, the City of Tampa’s $2.9 billion infrastructure program to upgrade aging water and wastewater systems.
