ExxonMobil Begins Drilling New Well

ExxonMobil has announced that the drilling of the first of two planned wells offshore Guyana has begun. The Haimara-1 exploration well, located 19 miles (31 km) east of the Pluma-1 discover in southeast Stabroek Block, is being drilled by the Stena Carron drillship, with the Noble Tom Madden drillship expected to drill the second well.

Erin Energy resumes Oyo-8 well production

Erin Energy Corporation, an American oil and gas exploration company, has announced the Island Constructor light well intervention (LWI) vessel has successfully completed work on the Oyo-8 well and the Company has resumed production from the well.

US proposes new offshore well equipment rules

The US Department of Interior has proposed new rules for the design and operation of well control equipment offshore. The department has stated that these proposed new rules would incorporate the latest industry standards that establish minimum baseline requirements for the design, manufacture, repair and maintenance of blowout preventors (BOPs); require more controls over the maintenance and repair of BOPs; require that shear rams be designed to include a technology that allows the drill pipe to be centered during shearing operations; require more rigorous third-party certification of the shearing capability of BOPs; request comments on a potential long-term requirement that a technology be installed to allow all equipment in the hole to be severed; expand accumulator capacity for increased functionality; require real-time monitoring capability for deepwater and high-pressure/high-temperature drilling activities; establish criteria for the testing of subsea well containment equipment in the regulations; increase the reporting of failure data of BOP to OEMs by operators and drilling contractors; adopt criteria for safe drilling margins consistent with Department of Justice and Office of the Inspector General recommendations arising out of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy; require the use of accepted engineering principles and establishes general performance criteria for drilling and completion equipment; establish additional requirements for using ROVs to assist in closing the BOP stack; establish additional guidelines for cementing and the use of centralizers; make the testing frequency of BOPs used on workover operations the same as drilling operations; and, request comments on changing the test frequency for both workover and drilling BOPs from 14 days to 21 days.

Petrobras’ TLWP uses well control valves onboard

Brazil’s Petrobras has begun production on the platform P-61 in Papa Terra field, which is located near the southern perimeter of the Campos Basin (State of Rio de Janeiro), approximately 110 kilometers off the coast of Brazil.

Hawaii geothermal test wells planned

    Nevada-based Ormat Technologies Inc. is planning to develop a geothermal energy project on the southwest side of Haleakala in Maui, Hawaii.

Diaz begins development program in Macklin, SK

    Having received drilling license, Diaz Resources Ltd. has begun a development drilling program in the Macklin, Saskatchewan area to drill up to three horizontal Dina heavy oil wells.

Arctic Hunter SK well production increases

    Arctic Hunter Energy Inc.'s recently completed well on their core heavy oil operating Landrose property in west central Saskatchewan began production in late January.

Brazil offshore ops continue in Campos Basin

    SBM Offshore has been granted a 26-month extension by Petrobas, on the lease and operating contract of the FPSO Marlim Sul offshore Brazil.
