An "unusual event" was recently declared at the Salem 2 nuclear reactor in New Jersey, after a relief valve improperly opened during troubleshooting, allowing the release of approximately 25 gallons of water from the plant's cooling system.

EDF Energy, with operations in North and South America, has approved Rotork IQ3 non-intrusive intelligent valve actuators for balance of plant applications within its nuclear power stations. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, now ranks among the lowest performing reactors in the United States. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is downgrading Pilgrim to one of its lowest performance categories after a series of emergency shutdowns and equipment failures at the power plant.
