Plant shut down involves isolation valve

The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts is back online after an automatic shutdown was triggered this past weekend. The shut-down was caused by a broken instrument control line feeding one of the plant’s four main steam isolation valves. The line was repaired by company officials and the plant returned to full power on August 26, 2015.
This is the third shutdown at the Plymouth plant this year. Pilgrim was under additional oversight by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) until the end of June as a result of the two earlier shutdowns due to repairs and maintenance that needed to be performed on some of the plant’s safety relief valves.
