Petrobras, through Petrobras International Braspetro BV – Colombia Branch (PIB-COL), and Ecopetrol confirm the largest gas discovery in Colombia’s history with the drilling of the Sirius-2 well.
The Sirius-2 well began drilling and is located within the area of the GUA-OFF-0 offshore block, 77 kilometers from Santa Marta (capital of the department of Magdalena, in the north of the country), in a water depth of 830 meters.
With the evaluation of the results of the Sirius-2 well, gas volumes in excess of 6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) in place (VGIP) were confirmed. This finding could increase Colombia’s current reserves by 200%.
Thanks to this result, the consortium formed by PIB-COL, as operator (44.44% stake), and Ecopetrol (55.56% stake), will begin the activities of acquiring meta-oceanic data, as part of the Production Development Project for the discovery. This data, together with environmental information on the seabed, bathymetry, geotechnical and geophysical information, are essential for the installation of the pipeline for the transport of natural gas from the field to the gas treatment unit onshore, as well as for the installation of production systems on the seabed.
