NRG Energy, owner of the Montville Station power plant, is pushing ahead with its 4-year-old proposal to partly convert the plant from natural gas and oil to boilers powered by bio-mass fuel, a move the New Jersey-based company said would add nearly 200 jobs to the region’s economy.
The proposal comes as an adjacent, idled, coal-fired generating plant, AES Thames, has been sold and is slated to be dismantled. But the USD 100 million Montville Station project is on hold until the company finds “somebody to buy the power,” said David Gaier, spokesman for NRG.
