NJ Governor vetoes LNG operation

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed a proposed offshore liquefied natural gas project 16 mi off the coast of Asbury Park. Christie used the veto power he has under the federal Deepwater Port Act to scuttle the plan by Liberty Natural Gas, saying it was too risky to the state’s crucial tourism and fishing industries. Liberty had proposed building an offshore terminal that would take in liquefied natural gas from ships, turn it back into gas, and carry it to the shore through 44 miles of submerged pipeline, then onshore in nine miles of pipeline between Perth Amboy and Linden.
