New steam control valve for Dover power plant

Delaware, Dover City Council members agreed recently to spend more than USD $600,000 on payments toward the city’s Municipal Light Plant for various acquisitions and maintenance. Included in this sum, Council approved $105,000 to be used toward replacing a boiler steam control valve that is said to be cracked and will be replaced during the plant’s annual spring shutdown.

A used steam turbine generator and condenser were purchased in November from the city of Shelby during an auction at the power plant in Richland County. Dover is paying $86,250 for the generator and equipment. The disassembly and transportation of the equipment will cost an estimated $250,000.

The Dover power plant upgrades could double the city’s Municipal Light Plant generation capabilities and save the city several million dollars.
