New rules for hydraulic fracturing unveiled

The federal government’s Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell, has released the final standards for hydraulic fracturing on both public and American Indian lands.
The new and thorough rules update requirements for well-bore integrity, wastewater disposal and public disclosure of chemicals. Companies must now disclose chemicals used to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the public with limited exceptions for material demonstrated through affidavit to be trade secrets.
