Metso expands ESD valve diagnostic offering

Metso, with branches in North and South America, has recently launched its latest intelligent partial stroke test (PST) – the Neles ValvGuard™ VG9PST system – aimed at diagnosing the performance of emergency shutdown (ESD) valves. In addition, the system is claimed to help improve the cost efficiency of installations that use an external solenoid valve.

Designed especially for the oil and gas segment, the new solution has unique features, including increased pneumatic capacity.

The device offers added safety by disabling all the testing and calibration if the input signal from the DCS falls below certain levels. Another benefit of the new solution for the end user comes from simplified installation, since a solenoid valve is used for the fail-safe action and the VG9PST is used purely for testing purposes. Furthermore, the pneumatic capacity of the device allows valve operation without any external volume boosters.
