Mayerthorpe supports pipeline project

Mayerthorpe is maintaining its support of Northern Gateway’s pipeline project, which is a proposed CAD $6.5 billion crude oil pipeline that will provide access to new markets in the Pacific Rim.

The Town Council voted unanimously to support a motion for the upcoming Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) to offer the support of urban municipalities for the project. The decision comes after Northern Gateway recently toured the region to encourage municipalities to take that action.

Mayerthorpe Mayor Kate Patrick said the proposed pipeline, which would carry oil from Alberta to the west coast, remains a necessary one for the province. Northern Gateway is now trying to gather support from the Albertan municipalities.
