A company formed by CH2M Hill and URS Corp. will continue to clean up waste at the Idaho National Laboratory for another three years under a USD 730 million-contract extension announced earlier this week.
CH2M-WG Idaho will continue its work managing spent fuel and cleaning up solid and liquid waste at the Department of Energy site near Idaho Falls that has hosted nuclear power research projects since 1949. The original contract began in 2005. In a statement quoted by the company, DOE officials said, “CWI has been able to operate a highly successful cleanup program in Idaho, completing nearly every project ahead of schedule and under budget, saving the tax payer millions of dollars.”
The contract extension will include the treatment of sodium-bearing liquid tank waste, a company spokesman told the Post Register newspaper, a project originally scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
