GTT: LNG solution for the Amazon

French marine engineering company GTT is seeking a partnership with Brazil’s HRT Participações and federal energy major Petrobras to monetize natural gas produced in remote Amazon fields.
According to GTT, LNG provides the ideal solution for Brazil’s gas logistics problems amid rising demand from thermoelectric power plants. “The energy industry is seeing the benefits of LNG as a clean, cost effective and reliable solution,” GTT Business Development Director Mr Aziz Bamik Bamik said. “It allows companies to diversify their portfolio and mitigate risks to their energy mix.”

Bamik said GTT had developed pioneering shallow draft technology allowing LNG to be transported along rivers at a depth as low as 5m. GGT says two thirds of the world’s LNG fleet uses its technology with 87 new carriers currently under construction. The company also has contracts with eight LNG floating storage and regasification units either on order or being built. Among them is a 173,000m3-capacity vessel set to be delivered to Houston-based Excelerate Energy next year. The ship will be chartered by Petrobras under a 15-year deal to transport LNG from the company’s Guanabara terminal in Rio de Janeiro state.
