Fluor Selected as EPC Partner for Uranium Enrichment Plant in Ohio

Fluor Corporation has been awarded a multi-year contract by American Centrifuge Operating, LLC, a subsidiary of Centrus Energy. Serving as the integrated engineering, procurement, and construction partner (EPCP), Fluor will expand the company’s low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio.

The contract is part of a multi-billion dollar public and private investment plan. It aims to add thousands of additional centrifuges at Centrus’ American Centrifuge Plant. Fluor will lead the engineering as well as manage the supply chain and procurement of key materials and services. The company will also oversee construction and support commissioning.

The project establishes Centrus as a leading LEU provider for existing reactors and expand its current capacity to produce HALEU. According to Fluor, HALEU will be required in the next few years to power a new generation of advanced reactors to meet demands for carbon-free electricity.

The project is expected to create more than 1,300 jobs during construction and operation. Additionally, it will contribute to local economic growth and serve as an asset in the energy infrastructure. The plant is one of two licensed LEU facilities in the U.S. and the only licensed HALEU-production facility in the Western world.
