Dairy farmers learn new usage of 6” outlet valve

The Kansas Department of Agriculture recently hosted the inaugural Dairy Industry and Technology Conference in Dodge City, Kansas. The meeting brought together the dairy industry leaders in the region to look at business development issues facing them, as well as hear updates on projects in the area.

One topic of discussion was introduced by Damon Miller, a member of Dairy Farmers of America/Southwest Milk Logistics, who discussed the new usage of 6-inch outlet valves for unloading tanker trailers. He explained these new valves can unload a 6,250-gallon trailer in 7 minutes, versus the 18 to 20 minutes it would take with the standard 3-inch valve. While the valves are easy to clean, they are expensive components and require training of employees to use them.
