Chesterton introduces Polymer Labyrinth Seal

Chesterton has introduced a new Polymer Labyrinth Seal, meant for the protection of bearings, gearboxes and motors in oil splash applications. The Polymer Labyrinth Seal is designed to provide improved sealing performance in splash applications for bearing and gearbox protection. This high performance non-contact design eliminates fretting caused by conventional lip seals and helps to reduce maintenance costs associated with premature bearing and gearbox failures. This seal combines polymer material with a patent-pending design. The unitized, non-contacting 3-piece labyrinth design includes a rotor, a stator and a built-in valve with no wearing parts. While in operation lubricant is contained within the labyrinth and flows back into the bearing housing while outside contaminants are excluded, by centrifugal force and gravity, and redirected through a relief port back to atmosphere. A unique built-in valve design is activated by shaft rotation to eliminate contamination of the bearing housing while in operation. This feature also engages during shutdown periods to create a positive seal during idle time, eliminating ingress of external contaminants. The material technology is manufactured from an advanced durable, maintenance friendly polymer, compatible with common bearing and gear oils.
