SMR firsts and fanfares

Companies competing for US federal funds to support the development of operational small modular reactors (SMRs) have been keen to report progress in their respective projects, including a first control room simulator and the launch of a fuel technology centre. NuScale Power is claiming a world first with the commissioning of a control room simulator to model the operation of its SMR design.

Oil States to acquire Piper Valve Systems

Oil States International Inc. subsidiary Oil States Industries Inc. has entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire Piper Valve Systems Ltd.   Oklahoma City, OK-based Piper Valve Systems designs and manufactures hig-pressure valves and manifold components for offshore, onshore and subsea oil and gas projects.

Fluor & Construcap form Brazil joint venture

Fluor Corporation has formed a new joint venture called CFPS Engenharia e Projetocs, S.A. with Sao Paolo, Brazil-based Construcap to pursue engineering, procurement and construction management projects in the country.

A consortium led by Petrobras has authorized 10 contracts for six topsides modules. The contracts are valued at $4.5 billion.

Enbridge to spend CAD 500 Million on safety

Carbon-capture plant to be constructed

Austin, Texas-based carbon-capture firm Skyonic Corp. has raised USD$9 million from investors which include prominent oil and gas industry players. The funds will be used to begin construction on a full-scale manufacturing facility.

Jacobs receives contract from Shell Canada Energy

ABB has won orders worth $55 million from Canadian utility BC Hydro to deliver flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) solutions that help increase transmission capacity through new and existing power lines.

Expro awarded GoM subsea services contract

Expro has been awarded a USD$3.4 million, two-year contract working on the Who Dat project in the Gulf of Mexico for LLOG Exploration. Expro will be providing subsea test trees for the project on the Mississippi Canyon Block 547.
