Offshore oil and gas exploration has become increasingly challenging as the days of 100 dollar per barrel are gone, at least for the time being. “We are not talking about Cadillacs anymore but economy vehicles. The industry has to come up with new and creative solutions to meet the established technical requirements for the lowest possible capital and operational costs,” says Alec Johnson of Petrobras when kicking off a recent interview with Valve World Americas journal. “But with that being said, when it comes to critical equipment such as boarding shut-down valves, we shouldn’t be penny wise, pound foolish.”
Johnson, Senior Mechanical Engineer, has seen the ups and downs in off shore oil and gas exploration. He has more than 20 years of experience under his belt in the industry, working for various offshore engineering companies, OEM’s and major oil and gas production companies. For the last ten years, Johnson has been at Petrobras America Inc. as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, currently working on Gulf of Mexico assets.
