bp starts up seventh major project of 2025

bp has delivered first oil from its Atlantis Drill Center 1 expansion project, marking its seventh major upstream project startup in 2025.

The expansion will potentially add approximately 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of gross peak annualized average production. The Atlantis platform is one of bp’s longest-running projects in the Gulf of America. It has a gross production capacity of up to 200,000 barrels of oil per day.

The project was complete two months ahead of schedule by leveraging existing subsea inventory, improving drilling and well completion efficiency, and streamlining offshore execution planning.

The Atlantis Drill Center 1 expansion adds two wells to an existing drill center, a subsea hub that connects multiple wells. The subsea tieback links the wells to existing offshore production facilities through pipelines, extending the footprint of the Atlantis field.

This expansion is the second in a series of new projects bp plans to develop in the U.S. Gulf of America through the end of the decade. It’s expected to support bp’s goal of increasing offshore U.S. production capacity to more than 400,000 boe/d by 2030. The Atlantis platform currently operates in 7,074 feet of water, approximately 150 miles south of New Orleans.
