Port Tampa Bay’s Petroleum Facilities Improvements Project, a joint venture between Batson-Cook Construction and Balfour Beatty Construction, was presented the Eagle Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Gulf Coast Chapter at its recent annual awards event.
The USD 54M facilities improvements project – the largest capital investment in the port’s history – called for complete modernisation of the port’s main petroleum terminal complex in order to allow for future growth of Florida’s fuel delivery infrastructure. The project included demolition of a 46-year-old pier; construction of two new deep-water berths with marine platforms, along with eight marine loading arms used as a disbursement structure for fuel products; and installation of approximately 35,000ft of 12″ piping leading to a new central manifold and valve system installed at each berth.
