Alberta Government Launches Online Hub for Proposed Pipeline Project

The Alberta Government has launched a website detailing up-to-date information for the proposed Northwest Coast Oil Pipeline announced early December.

The website includes information updates about the project to ensure transparency and open dialogue. It also includes details about the economic benefits, engagement with Indigenous communities, and expedited processes to seek approval from the federal Major Projects Office.

The pipeline is an integral part of an MOU signed by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. Upon receipt of a proposal, the Canadian Government will provide an approval process for the construction of the pipeline that would transport at least one million low-emissions barrels per day for Asian markets as a priority.

The agreement also aims for net-zero emissions by 2050 and to collaborate on reducing emissions and delivering substantial economic benefits. This entails more than $16 billion in GDP and over 40,000 jobs annually.
