Power generation and process industries require large quantities of valves that may vary in size, type, and values to regulate the flow of different media types. While in service, valve seats can be damaged from exposure to the process’ media as they must withstand heat, pressure, and foreign matter. Therefore, regular maintenance is required to prevent costly downtime due to seat damage.
Amongst the various valve maintenance best practices to follow, grinding and lapping is high on the priority list as the procedure achieves a dense, flat surface. This effectively seals the valve seat surface in the valve body and on wedge/gate/globe/slide, to completely seal the valve’s metal-to-metal seat area.
