US-based specialist trade distributor, Ferguson, has recently signed an agreement to acquire Columbia Pipe & Supply, an independent distributor headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The transaction is subject to receipt of regulatory approval from the relevant competition authorities, which is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
Columbia Pipe, which specializes in PVF, commercial mechanical, commercial plumbing, industrial, valve automation, engineered products and hydronics, was founded in 1935 and employs around 375 staff. The company has 16 locations across Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. In 2019, the company generated revenue of $220 million.
Commenting on the acquisition, Kevin Murphy, CEO of Ferguson, said: “Chicago is the third largest city in the US with a substantial commercial market. This acquisition accelerates our Chicago market strategy and will allow us to rapidly expand our existing capabilities across the Mid-West.”
