NextDecade, LLC has announced that it has signed lease agreements for a nearly 1,000-acre site southeast of Houston for the potential development of a multibillion-dollar liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility.
The agreements cover approximately 376 acres of city-owned land at Shoal Point, located on Galveston Bay just east of Texas City’s petrochemical facilities, and 618 acres of adjoining state-owned land managed by the Texas General Land Office.
The Shoal Point site allows for significant design flexibility and potential expansion capability and features deep-water access and proximity to natural gas pipeline infrastructure. The potential LNG export terminal would be the first such facility in the vicinity of the ports of Houston, Texas City and Galveston, according to NextDecade.
