The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has released the second edition of their air valves manual, “M51 Air Valves: Air-Release, Air/Vacuum & Combination.”
Choosing and installing the correct air valve is critical to all liquid piping systems. The effects of air and vacuum pockets present in a system can have an undesirable impact on a pump, meter and control valve operation and can create pipeline breaks and collapses. With that in mind, the updated M51 provides information to guide water operators, technicians and engineers in selecting, sizing, locating and installing air valves in water, wastewater and reclaimed water pipeline systems.
The air valve types covered in M51 correspond with AWWA Standards AWWA C512-15 Air Release, Air/Vacuum, and Combination Air Valves for Water and Wastewater Service; and AWWA C514-15 Air Valve and Vent Inflow Preventer Assemblies for Potable Water Distribution System and Storage Facilities.
