A recent draw down of Crane Lake in Iron County, Missouri will allow USA staff to perform studies on the lake’s dam and containment structures. As well, a valve located at the bottom of the dam is also stuck and the draw down will allow for staff to repair this problem.
The lake is specifically located in the Mark Twain National Forest about 14 miles south of Ironton and the project is supervised by District Ranger Rebecca Ewing of the Potosi/Fredericktown Ranger District. On August 6th, the draw down began. During the study period U. S. Forest Service staff will perform a few basic maintenance tasks since maintenance work has not been performed on the structures in 25 years.
