Farley nuclear station undergoes valve repair

Late last month, the workers at Farley nuclear power plant located near Dothan in southeast Alabama, took Unit 1 offline for a scheduled refuelling and maintenance outage. Workers with Southern Nuclear were performing upgrades to the plant systems and components in addition to refuelling the reactor and performing regular maintenance and testing. Each unit at Plant Farley requires refuelling every 18 months. Unit 2 continued to operate during the time Unit 1 was offline.
The thorough inspection of Unit 1, which ended earlier this month, has revealed a leak that maintenance personnel will keep a watchful eye on. The valve in question which caused the leak is currently under repair.
