Clean Energy Fuels Corp. and Texas truck transport provider, Green Energy Oilfield Services, signed a 10-year agreement to build, supply and maintain a new liquefied natural gas fueling station at the Fairfield, Texas-based, Green Energy headquarters. The LNG station will fuel Green Energy’s new fleet of 60 LNG-powered heavy duty Peterbilt trucks. The fleet will support the company’s oil production customers located in the Freestone oil region of Central Texas, within a 100-mile radius of Fairfield. It is anticipated that the trucks will use about 1.2 million gallons of LNG per year.
Development is planned to start in August 2012 and set to be completed by the end of the year. Green Energy also plans to develop additional LNG truck fueling stations in other petroleum-producing areas of Texas such as the Eagle Ford Shale in Laredo, Barnett in Fort Worth and Haynesville in Marshall.
Use of natural gas fuel significantly reduces costs for vehicle and fleet owners as it is currently priced at USD1.50 or more per gallon less than the price of diesel. Its use also reduces greenhouse gas emissions to 23% in medium to heavy-duty vehicles. Natural gas is also a secure energy source in the continent with 98% of the consumed natural gas being produced in North America.
