bp Starts Production From Sixth Upstream Project of 2025

bp’s sixth upstream oil and gas project of 2025 began mid-October from the Murlach field in the UK North Sea.

The company anticipates the combined projects will deliver approximately 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) in peak net production. This supports its target of bringing 10 major upstream projects online and adding a total of 250,000 boed in peak net production by the end of 2027.

The Murlach development contributes around 15,000 boed in peak net production to the Eastern Trough Area Project (ETAP). It received government and regulatory approvals in 2023 and involved redeveloping a field that was originally in production during the early 2000s.

The redevelopment included drilling two new wells, installing subsea equipment, reusing existing infrastructure, and making topside modifications to the ETAP central processing facility.
